Databases in the cloud

Well. If their short video promo is anything to go by, FathomDB does exactly what it says on the tin: taking the hassle out of database administration.
I stumbled across this while in the middle of a regular apache/php/mysql combo install… and by the time I got to MySQL, I was like, heck… I’ve had enough of this already. And I don’t wanna fill up this machine with more apps and services than I have to. So then I thought, “hmm… what I really need is for my DB to be up in the cloud somewhere…” and hey presto, Google fessed up this article. Mind you, I neglected to prefix my search with “free”, which I suspect fathomDB isn’t.
This excerpt tickles, though: In response to the FAQ question ‘Does this replace the DBA‘, they write “FathomDB makes DBA tasks easier, so you don’t have to hire one right away if you’re a startup; good DBAs can spend their time where they really add value.” Ahem… yeah.
