You should, and will, wince. You may, or may not, laugh. But by God you *will* talk about it, and the new ad guy at Microsoft (I forget the hotshot’s name) knows it too well.
Forget branding… This is psychology 101. It’s called a “pattern interrupt”. Pattern interrupts are never enjoyable for the people whose heads are being frakked with. It can however, be mildly amusing for onlookers.
What’s funny
The flip-side of comedy has always been tragedy, and the painful experience that is watching the new MS ads – hell, the painful experience of knowing that they have been MADE at all, for millions of dollars… that they even exist - is surely tragic. Come on, people! Are your brains so hemispherically perfect that none of this triggers the mildest bit of amusement in some some completely unrelated dark recess of your mind?
I witness Bill’s wooden deliveries in the midst of this bizarre and nonsensical setup, and I find myself laughing not so much at the clip itself (which I do genuinely find amusing*), but at what it’s going to do to certain people when they watch it. Especially the vociferous [insert empty-vessels-make-the-most-noise-type-wittycism-here] MAC-vs-PC stirrers.
Some passionate people are going to have aneurysms over this entire series. That’s a laugh in itself….

*come on, when the Grandma goes on about her teeth in the Fridge, and Jerry goes ‘See, that’s real’, and Bill goes ‘Yeah, I felt that’ – my God that was like a nanosecond when Bill actually ACTED! Well! Oh the hilarity never ends.
